Marketing: how to promote your business online



Going online goes beyond having a website. Building your presence online requires time and effort but it’s not hard to begin and the results can be seen quickly. There are many ways to do this, including free and paid options. We have selected some ideas and choices to begin building your online presence.




To start, understand which stage you are at. If you don’t have a website yet, go to our build a website article and then come back here for more tips. After this, you may need to create social media channels if you don’t yet have them. Don’t worry, it’s all free of charge.
Let’s start:

1. Social Media



The quickest and in my opinion, the easiest way to reach customers online is through social media. You don’t need to be on every single channel but by understanding your clientele you can choose the right social media for your audience. Using this 2020 report you can understand the different demographic aspects of each social media channel and choose which ones are best for you.

Once you choose, then it’s time to make an account, including pictures, opening hours, location, website button and much more. It’s also important that you continue monitoring and creating content for your pages. At Print Solutions, we create about 3 posts every week and we follow a content plan created that follows the goals of the business for the month and for the year. This is also known as your ‘Digital Marketing Strategy’.

You don’t need to start with 3 posts a week, you can do once a week or every 10 days. After a while, you’ll get used to creating content and it will become easier for you, or maybe your business will grow and you can have a digital marketing specialist on your team. Again knowing your audience best, you’ll get to know what they want - is it ‘how to’ guides, product information, promotions, design ideas, recipes, news? etc.

It’s important to define your business goals online and direct your social media efforts to match these goals. An example of a goal can be e.g. to increase online sales by 20% by the end of the semester, or to gain 100 followers by the end of ‘July’ etc.

Note: you can also use paid campaigns on your social media channels, where you can reach more people, gain more engagement, drive people for your website and much more. These are called PPC campaigns or Pay Per Click campaigns.


2. Google My Business

A lot of people use it not knowing the number of possibilities inside this platform. If you still don’t know what it is, this image may be familiar 



On the right is Google My Business. In Google, this is what is going to show up when people search for your company or use keywords related to it. What you may not know is that you can update this page, let the customers know if you are closed on a bank holiday, post about new products or useful information, add pictures, add promotions, reply to customer reviews, add an appointment or website buttons and much much more!  This is the page for google support if you want to know more about how to use Google My Business.


3. Email Marketing



Instead of calling each customer, you can build a list with all of your customers and their emails and send monthly promotions with email marketing. This is not the only thing you can do, you can create a newsletter and bring to your clients valuable content, new products and introduce new staff. With the newsletter, you can also attract new people by posting a subscribe form on your website or across your social media channel so more people can get to know about your company. You can use programs like Mailchimp to help you manage your email marketing.


4.Google Search and Google Ads



Creating good content, having a social media presence and having a website won’t just help you to communicate with your existing customers but it can help you to appear first when someone searches on google for your page or product. You can also get ahead of your competitors!

You can spend small amounts and can get more customers, or appear in the top of a search page by using Google Ads. You pay per click, meaning that you just pay when someone clicks to see your ad. You can choose your budget, play with keywords and use online tutorials and built in prompt guides to help you learn more.



Extra tip:

If you have your website up and running don’t forget to take a look at Google Analytics. By using this tool, you can better understand your audience behaviour and better optimize your website to meet your customer needs!
